We’re pleased to release an interview that Society member Irene Single conducted several years ago with five Lyman senior residents. The interview was conducted at the home of Barbara Pillsbury on December 31, 2009 with the following individuals present: Irene Single, Barbara (Rhodes) Pillsbury, Leland ‘Lee’ Littlefield, Sr., Carol (Grant) Stearns, Sandra (Ricker) Caron and Amos ‘Pep’ Boyden. As you begin listening to this interview, you’ll note that this was a lively and engaged group that, at times, were having several conversations at once, particularly in the 1st nine minutes or so of the recording. The initial discussion was prompted by Lee Littlefield’s sharing of old black & white photos he’d brought to the interview. During the course of the interview, the group discussed many subjects, including the various mills in the town, the water system in the Goodwins Mills village, the town’s first phone system and the fire of ’47. Additionally, the names of many long since passed Lyman residents are mentioned. This interview is an invaluable source of information for the Society as it captures first-hand accounts of some of the town’s history as well as creating a number of leads to explore from an historical perspective. We hope you enjoy listening to it!
